Last weekend was undoubtedly a blast for bike enthusiasts in the Philippines as the PhilBike Expo was held for the three long days of October 2-4 at the SMX Convention Center. Numerous bike brands had come to showcase and sell their merchandise; there were indoor bike parks made for MTBs, BMXs, and road bikes for guests to enjoy; and the event organizers even brought in three of the most popular international cyclists: Vittorio Brumotti, Viki Gomez, and Matthias Dandois.
The international cyclists demonstrated their talents in several shows open to the Expo goers, during which people were able to ask the three questions about anything and everything related to cycling, and take photos with them. They also did a few demonstrations: Viki and Matthias together with their BMX bikes, and Vittorio by himself with his road bike though on occasion with a chosen few audience members to perform his freestyle tricks.
While the world-renowned cyclists did have their place as one of the main attractions during the three-day event, there were quite a lot of gems scattered about. Guests were treated to a free issue of Bike magazine, which contains the most breathtaking photos and features of all things, related to, you guessed it, bikes! Big brands like Pinarello, Cervélo, BMC, and Sava were present and selling their products; and also a part of the convention was smaller brands that had unique products, like the Bambike a Philippine brand priding itself in creating bikes handmade from bamboo.
The PhilBike Expo is the country’s first and only convention, which caters to the promotion and development of anything and everything cycling, bringing the Philippines’ cycling community together. Hopefully in 2016, they’ll be celebrating their third year with just as much of a bang this year or maybe even more.
